This old world bread mix is taken to a new level with the addition of Herbs de Provence while keeping the same traditional european style yeast bread with a tough crust and tender, chewy interior! Adding only water to the mix, which already has just the right amount of lavender, time is the friend of this yeast bread. Cover for 12 hours or more and let the yeast do all the work. No kneading or a second rising is required, just bake in a covered oven proof dish at 450 and the bread will steam to produce the crust we all love to tear into. I recently retired and have more time to cook. Some thing I haven’t done a lot of and certainly no baking. We don’t eat a lot of bread in our house, but what we do eat we want to taste good. This loaf was so easy to make and so tasty that I am going back to it. I love crusty bread. I love that there’s no kneading or proofing just mixing water and yeast and then sticking it in the oven. It couldn’t be easier or more tasty.
I love how easy this recipe is to follow. It smells amazing after it's cooked and looks perfectly browned. As soon as i took it out of the oven you could smell the lavender & thyme. The taste is out of the world! Can't wait to order more. I don't have a dutch oven so used an ovenproof pot with aluminum foil on it and it turned out perfect.
